Despite the peace pact signed by the presidential candidates of all the parties that have registered for the fast approaching February 14, 2015 Presidential election in Nigeria, the polity is apparently getting messier by the minutes. Whilst the contesting candidates seem to have complied with the pact, their supporters have thrown cautions to the wing as they engage each other in unguarded utterances and malicious allegations.
A case in point is the Punch Newspaper cover story sponsored by the governor of Ekiti State Ayodele Fayose. The caption went all the way to the extreme to mock past leaders of the North-West extract with the notion that any Leader from that part of Nigeria who assume power will surely die before the expiration of his tenure.
The article has since elicited varied reactions from Nigerians especially the Northerners. Ironically this singular act may work against President Jonathan in his bid to win votes in the North.
