Governmeant as well as the people residing in the Northern part of Nigeria can heave a sigh of relief as a man supposed to be Abubakar Shekau, the leader of the deadly sect, Boko Haram, has published a new video asking his followers to surrender.
The group has been waging a six-year armed campaign in the northeastern part of Nigeria to build an Islamic state and also end Western education in the region.
Thousands have been killed and more than two million people displaced by the campaign.
In the new video, a frail looking Shekau asked his followers to “surrender to save themselves”.
However, varied reactions have continued to trail the video, Nigerians are questioning the credibility of the video with focus on the release of the Chibok girls, who were kidnapped two years ago, if the group were truly suing for peace.
