Recently, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, chief Bode George warned the national leader of the All Progressive Party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu against influencing the emergence of a Ooni Of Ife.
“He will be making attempts to manipulate the process. They will do politics with it but it will blow up. They should allow the kingmakers to do their work. If he manipulates the process, he will create a huge problem in Yoruba land.
“We need an experienced person. We want the person that the kingmakers will approve of. As the Atona Oodua, I know how these things are done.
“Let him allow the kingmakers do their job. He should not set Yoruba land on fire. Aregbesola should, instead, focus on paying salaries. ” he said.. Bode George said the politics of Ife was not like that of Lagos and warned him (Tinubu) to stay away from the ancient town’s politics.
These are the contentions of the former PDP South-west’s Chairman who in my judgment is covertly making a god out of a mere mortal. In his bid to paint the seemingly unperturbed APC national leader black, Chief Bode George has only succeeded in making him more conspicuous and popular.
Sometime ago at a social gathering in Lagos, Oba Of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu openly spoke about how he Bode George and Tinubu influenced his emergence as Oba of Lagos as against the opposition of former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, and from then till now, we are yet to witness the heaven falls.
Again, when the late Emir of Kano, Abubakar Dasuki passed on and it was time for the kingmakers to select a new Emir, the name of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was overtly involved.
During the 2015 electioneering period, the name Tinubu was highly pronounced; such that every loser at the APC party’s primaries across the country was quick to attribute his/her loss to Jagaban’s factor. Even at the APC’s presidential primary in Lagos State, where the incumbent President, Mohammodu Buhari emerged the party’s presidential flag bearer; two other contestants fingered Tinubu in Buhari’s victory.
No other name has been so mentioned in the Nigeria political landscape in the last three years like Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He has become the beautiful bride of every ambitious politician that is seeking political office. Little wonder his Ikoyi residence is more thronged by politicians from across the country than the prominent Aso Rock Villa.
Even politicians like Ayo Fayose, Buruj Kashamu, Dino Melaye, Bukola Saraki… have at one time or the other accused Asiwaju Tinubu as the brain behind their travails.
When the popular writer William Shakespeare in one of his great writings said “sweet are the uses of adversities which like a toad ugly and venomous wears yet a precious jewel on its head”, he most have had a vision of a particular Tinubu in his sleep, because each time the name Tinubu is mentioned at every odd political situation, it becomes a puzzle subject to every Nigerian to solve and in that wise, the name becomes a household debate and in the long run more popular.
It is therefore not surprising to see Chief Bode George heading in the direction of other notable politicians in the country who have covertly or overtly agreed that Asiwa Bola Tinubu is a force recon with in every important political and social decision making in Nigeria.
Love or hate, Tinubu is a political Icon in the mould of Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
