A source on the inside revealed to us that at twilight of the administration of the former governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, Lagos state was virtually running on autopilot, on account of the ex-governor’s involvement in the campaign train of incumbent governor, Akinwunmi Ambode.
While the ex-governor was busy campaigning for the incoming governor, he entrusted the administrative responsibilities of government in the hands of the permanent secretaries of the ministries so that there would not be a vacuum in government. However, the seemingly blind-trust as it were, turned out to be an opportunity the Permanent Secretaries to loot the state treasury dry believing that after the predictable APC’s victory at poll; there would be no time for the outgoing governor to look into their activities and that it would take the incoming governor almost eternity to dig into their fraudulent act.
They were however wrong, as governor Akinwunmi Ambode has brought his experience as a chartered Accountant and seasoned administrator to bear by carefully looking into the books in detail and in the process discovered the wanton loot carried out by the ousted permanent secretaries.
According to the source, upon discovery of the loot said to be way above N400Billion, the governor in his bewilderment reported the case to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who also was dumbfounded. After careful study of the books by the two, Asiwaju was said to have instructed Mr. Governor to send them packing.
The source also said that the singular reason the mischief was kept under wrap was to prevent the opposition party, PDP from seizing that opportunity to attack the governor and the party.
